Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion

At THK, we believe that diverse teams produce the best advice for our clients.

THK’s DEI Journey

Recognizing the need to be more intentional about DEI in our practices, we hired DEI consultant Kim Amrine in November 2020 to guide us. Amrine began our DEI journey with a comprehensive DEI assessment of the firm, enabling our leaders to construct a multi-year DEI strategic plan with very specific goals and action items.

Education

One of our first actions was to prioritize education. This work began with a mandatory in-person DEI training. The 2.5-hour training covered unconscious bias, microaggressions, and real-world hypotheticals, where attendees openly shared and learned from one another. Now all new employees complete the program. In addition, every year we develop and execute a unique educational program for all THK employees that is tied to the DEI strategic plan. We also offer several DEI lunch-and-learns throughout the year.

DEI Committee

We have established a dedicated DEI Committee which has grown in size each year and remains highly engaged in advancing our DEI initiatives. The committee includes the firm’s managing partner, associates, and business professionals, all committed to taking consistent action steps toward achieving our strategic plan.

Achievements and Ongoing Commitment

In early 2024, the DEI Committee met to reflect on the achievements outlined in its initial multi-year strategic plan and identify priorities for its next strategic plan. Key accomplishments impacting both attorneys and business professionals include:

  • New and updated policies
  • Core competencies for all positions
  • An improved evaluation system
  • Enhanced internal communication
  • Increased knowledge about DEI
  • Improved onboarding system

The committee acknowledges that
“the more we’ve done, the more we realize there is to do.”
Our DEI journey continues.
