SOUTH BEND, Ind., May 27, 2026—THK Law, LLP, has completed its first Financial Literacy Series, a pilot program designed to equip South Bend high school students with practical, real-world financial skills as they prepare for life after graduation. The program was made possible in part through the support of 1st Source Bank, which served as a key community partner throughout the series.
The series brought together a small cohort of five juniors and seniors from South Bend Community School Corporation’s Washington and Adams high schools for monthly classes held from January through April.
Led by Andre Gammage, a former Magistrate Judge in the St. Joseph Circuit Court and attorney at THK Law, the series helped students think more intentionally about money, including conversations around budgeting, credit, spending habits, entrepreneurship, and the long-term impact of financial decisions. Two sessions hosted by 1st Source Bank gave students additional exposure to banking operations, loans, and credit concepts through conversations with financial professionals.
“Too often, young people are expected to navigate financial decisions without ever having been shown the basics,” said Gammage. “This series was about creating space for honest conversations, practical learning, and helping students think differently about how everyday financial choices can shape their future.”
Intentionally designed with a small group, the series encouraged participation and built trust over time. Students were asked to come prepared with questions and to actively engage, an approach that led to candid conversations extending beyond traditional classroom instruction.
“We see this as a starting point,” Gammage added. “If we can help even a small group of students feel more confident and informed, that impact carries forward — not just for them, but for their families and the community as a whole.”
